Day 30 - Weight loss disappointing - Weight today 13stones 11lbs

Hi all,

Sorry its been a while - well I've taken Meratol every day (bar 1 when I wasn't very well) - for 30 days now.  In between I had a week where I had really bad flu like symptoms - so kept of all medication on the worst day.

Since then my stomach hasn't been 100 per cent - and neither have I.  Apart from the odd weekend I have eaten very healthily - and kept up my low fat low carb regime - although I haven't really monitored my food intake.

Because I've been feeling dodgy - and the weather is - well - awful - apart from usual housework - I have done NO exercise at all.

I have at this point wrongly assumed that Meratol would help me lose weight by blocking carbs, upping my metabolism - etc. But frankly I am disappointed that my weight loss is effectively half a pound.  Had I been going completely mad - eating loads of bread, pasta, potatoes, butter, chocolate, alcohol - blah blah blah ... I would I suppose feel quite chuffed that I had - what you might say 'maintained' my weight.

The lowest my weight has dipped on Meratol so far is down to 13 stones 8lbs.  A total loss of 4lbs.  It went back up to almost 14 again - and then during my one week period of illness where I was off my food - it went down to 13 stones 9lbs.

Well with another two months to go - I will not be defeated - and go very much with the saying that if you keep getting the same result - you need to try something different.  In this case I think the missing ingredient for me is not so much what I put into my mouth - but what I am not doing with my body.

This week I will be taking more exercise. I will go back to my twice daily stretching exercises and aim for 20 mins walking a day.  I will also stop weighing myself every day - and go back to weighing once a week - Monday to Monday.

Back in a week - bye for now

Jules

Day 9 of my Meratol and Me weight loss trial - Meditation

Hi - morning.

Weight this morning following my day of liquid food was 13.10lbs (total weight loss so far 2lbs)

I am currently doing the Chopra Centre 21 day meditation challenge - further to my blog yesterday - apparently stress can really affect your weight - as adrenelin which fills our bodies with the fear or flight feelings - our bodies hold onto fat as protection.

So to counter this the idea is to attempt to remain balanced and calm - how do we achieve this in our stressful modern world where we attempt to be super human?

Meditation is something I have been wanting to do for a very long time - and the Chopra Centre has given me that ability - thank you!  for more go to the following link to experience peace - for at least 10 minutes in your hectic day.  Sending you love and light - Jules xx

Days 7, 8 and 9 - Changing tactics with Meratol in tow

Hi friends,

Despite happy weight loss last week - the weekend proved disappointing on the scales with my weight fluctuating up and down.  I definitely didn't go to any extremes - on Friday I had a few alcoholic beverages though -2 gin and slim tonic - and two glasses of red.

Read an interesting article in the You magazine of Mail on Sunday about it being impossible to lose weight if you are stressed as it lowers your metabolism. This is the basis for the Dietcare weight loss plan.  The theory holds some water I guess.  I have to admit to leading a pretty stressful existence - with anxious feelings overwhelming me most days - as work became extremely stressful last year - particularly trying to fit everything into a day - running the household, organising children, running own business, trying to focus on my 'diet' and keeping my music hobby going - so all in all pretty well up there on the stress stakes.

Anyway - I decided to have a healthy liquid day today to purge myself of any excess calories and have a bit of a clear out.  So - I started the day with 2 Meratol, my HRT tablet and some Kalms (you may laugh but they do help!) followed by:

Juiced fresh carrot, apple and ginger
Fruit tea
homemade celery and onion soup - made with an organic vegetable stock cube
Banana and soya milk smoothie
Celery and ginger appetiser
Fresh spinach, chilli, butternut, pea and celery soup with yoghurt (absolutely gorgeous)!

Just had a nice hot shower - did my exercises - and feel pretty relaxed.

Anyway we'll see what the scales say tomorrow.

xx

Day 6 of my Meratol and Me independent trial - Woop Woop! 2lb weight loss - Weight this morning 13.9!

Morning friends,

A happy result on the scales at 07.45 this morning - 2lbs off!  and I feel spurred on.

Difference yesterday was that I didn't have as much bread (just one slice) and had a small snack between dinner and going to bed (3 tea spoons cottage cheese and an Activia yoghurt).

I did my exercises before going to bed

Dinner was very healthy - as follows:

Grilled salmon steak
Steamed peas, carrots and one table spoon potatoes
One glass red wine

Have a great day one and all x

Day 5 - Weight gain of 1 lb - Weight now 13.11

Hmm - not happy - weight now 13.11.

Ok ... so - today I have made a conscious effort to be very careful with my food intake:

So far today I have eaten:

Pre breakfast
350ml lemon water

Breakfast
40g bran flakes
1 cup tea with milk

Mid morning
1 Apple
1 Activia yoghurt
1 cup tea

Lunch
Home made celery and onion soup - no fat just blended with with one Oxo cube
2 pieces roast chicken thigh without skin
lettuce, tomato, beetroot
1 slice Nimble - no butter
1 cup coffee

Mid afternoon
1 cup coffee

After school pick up
reduced sugar hot choc - (40 cals)
1 apple (50 cals)
1 banana (70 cals)
1 cup lemon water 0 cals

Will do calorie calcs before going to bed!

Feeling a bit deflated - but this is only the begining

Day 4 - stayed the same

Hi friends,

Hm - stayed the same this time.  I made a conscious effort to log my calories -

Calories
Breakfast
Fat free Activia - 59 cals

Mid morning
1 small apple - 50 cals
1 small tangerine - 50 clas
Cottage cheese - 80 cals

total 240

Lunch
2 slices Nimble bread - 100
tin sardines in tomato sauce - 200
celery and onion soup - 50

total: 350

Mid afternoon snack - 3 cornthins and Philly Lite cream cheese - approx 100

Dinner

3 fish fingers - 140 cals
peas and brocoli - cals 60
quarter jacket potato - 60 cals
1 slice wholemeal break - 100 cals

total: 360

Vowed not to have anything else after dinner (around 5.30pm)
Went to do the weekly shop at Tesco - bought loads of healthy food - but of course when I got home - bowed to temptation and ate the following:

The calories in this section are good estimates:
few slices of ham (20)

couple of spoons cottage cheese (50)

2 glasses of red wine (200)

and a packed of reduced fat crisps (cals 120)

total 400

I would say around 1500 calories for the day ...

Very little exercise today apart from walking round Tescos!

Day 3 - Weight loss 0 : ( Weight gain 1lb

Morning all,

Report from my bathroom scales this morning at 07.30 was a weight gain of 1lb - so back up to 13.10.

Observations and changes:

I had a very late night last night due to my partner's car breaking down about 70 miles away from home  - she had to be towed home by the AA - arriving home at 02.00am (home safe thank God - in spite of a grumpy breakdown man)!

This meant I ate more than I would have done as I stayed up.  I usually go to bed around 10.30 pm and while I waited I drank a few cups of tea and ate some Cornthins and Philadelphia lite - but I also did all the ironing - so a pretty reasonable balance of intake vs output.

Other observation - no 'output' of the 'regularity' kind - if you get my drift - so we'll see what my friendly scales say tomorrow morning.

I have started doing the Chopra Centre's 21 day meditation challenge ... and will report any difference to my 'spiritual' weight loss!

Over and out fellow weight loss ees - until tomorrow
